Very good tips. I had to fly to Hungary on a shoestring budget, and will be doing so again shortly. If you are able to be flexible, I would highly recommend Airtech.com. Airhitch.com does pretty much the same thing, but the customer service is… ahem…. something to be desired to say the very least. I was able to get a flight “across the pond” using Airtech for around $350. So, in total, I got to go to my destination for under $500 (and got to see some of Europe by train). Average ticket price at the time was $1,000. Also, it might be noted, that it is also really good to use for one-way travel, as normally one-way’s are more expensive… but this way you only pay for a single leg, at half the cost of a round-trip!

Thanks for all the great tips guys!

major tip: everytime you search for tickets, delete your cookies….actually do this for car rentals and any other price check. My experience is that the prices you are quoted are remembered and the price continues to only go up. This causes the buyer a panic and they buy for fear of another increase. Deleting those cookies wipes out the memory and it becomes a fresh search. I know, that really sucks but it happens.
